At least two people were killed and five others injured in in a clash between the blockade supporters and police members  on Tuesday in Sakhipur intersection of Debhata upazila.

The deceased are Hossain Ali, 14, son of Rajab Ali, of upazila's Ghughurbari village, and Arizul Islam, 20, son of Safed Ali, of Gaganbaria village of the same upazila.

Azizur Rahman, publicity secretary of district Jamaat, claimed that they were the activists of local Jamaat. Former UP member Abdul Hannan, also a neighbor of Arizul Islam, informed that Arizul was an activist of Jamaat and he faced jail terms earlier in a political case.

However, Hossain Ali's brother Amzad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune that his brother was not involved with any political party.

Witnesses said the clash ensued when blockade supporters clashed with police at Sakhipur intersection early in the morning. He was fishing in a local waterbody during the clash and shot by the BGB members.

Lieutenant Colonel KM Imam Ahsan, commander of BGB-38 battalion, said the blockade supporters hurled crude bombs and brick on police and BGB members Sakhipur intersection this morning.

In retaliation, the law enforcers fired rubber bullets to disperse the blockaders.

However, when asked about the deaths, he said: “Some of the activists were injured in the incident. But, we don’t know whether they died.”
