Update : 02 Dec 2013, 07:43 PM

Sona Bikash, a 12-year-old boy, lost both his hands and a leg as he was electrocuted in Kagrachhari.

The Chakma boy, who is a class two student at a local school in his district town, has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital since November 18.

His father Sanathi Gopal Chakma, 35, who was feeding the boy on the hospital bed in the male ward of the burns and plastic surgery unit at the DMCH, said, with tearful eyes, that his son was electrocuted while playing with a pigeon on the rooftop of their house.

Gopal added that like all other days, on November 18 Bikash went to the rooftop of the house to catch a pigeon, but he accidentally touched a live wire, which was just beside the house, and  fire burnt his hands and right leg instantaneously.

Immediately after the incident he was admitted to the DMCH, where, after going through a week-long treatment, doctors had to amputate his hands and leg in order to save his life.

Bikash is the only son of Shanti Gopal and Bhodrapati, they are now struggling as they have to pay for their son’s treatment.

Shanti, who is a farmer, said: “My son will not be able to go to school anymore as he has lost his legs. I do not know how I will be able to bear the costs.”
