Commemorating hundred years of receiving the Nobel Prize by poet Rabindra Nath Tagore for ‘Gitanjali’ and 90 years of famous poetry ‘Bidrohi’ of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, a programme styled as ‘Robir Alo-Droher Bina’ was held on Saturday under the sponsorships of Faridpur Shilpokala Academy at Kabi Jasimuddin hall.
Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Abu Hena Morshed Zaman was the chief guest in the function while Additional Deputy Commissioner M Jahangir Hossain attended as the special guest. Educationist Prof M Shahjahan chaired the function.
The colorful programme was divided into three sessions including presentations of keynote papers on Tagore and Nazrul, discussions, poetry recitations, dances and songs.
Professor Abdul Motaleb and Professor Rezvi Zaman presented the keynote papers on Tagore and Nazrul respectively where they highlighted their genius, creativities and contributions.
DC Morshed Zaman said the two great poets had curved out a very distinctive and significant place in the then world literature reflecting prominent identity of the Bangla speaking people.
Though Tagore and Nazrul composed their immortal creations many years back still those are very much pertinent in our life in present days, he said.
Morshed Zaman said romanticism, humanism and secularism were the key ingredients in their creations for building a happy and prosperous society.
Speaking on ‘Bidrohi’ he said Kazi Nazrul Islam who is our national poet inspired the people to shake of shackles of subservience under the British colonial rule that sought to keep it in bondage.
Professor M Shahjahan said Tagore and Nazrul gave enriched cultural and literary identity by their writings while Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ensured our political identity in polity of nations. Cultural activist and Freedom fighter Abul Faez Shahnawas also spoke at the function.
Cultural activists Siraji Kabir Khokon and Asma Akhtar Mukta presented recitations from Nazrul and Tagore respectively.
It was followed by musical soirees both solo and chorus and dances. Sawakat Ali Zahid and Shipra Goswami conducted the whole function.
