The ministries and divisions concerned have been instructed to abstain from allowing transfers or leaves to employees and officials without consultation with the Election Commission.
They have also been asked to provide the Election Commission all necessary assistance as a move for polls-preparations.
The move will be effective until 15 days after the elections, a letter issued in this regard said.
The letter, signed by Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, said officials and employees related to polls were under EC deputation from November 26.
This Dhaka Tribune correspondent came across the letter which said a decision has been taken to hold the January 5 elections in a free, fair, peaceful and neutral manner.
Defaulters will be punished in line with the Election Officers Act, 1991, the letter said.
The letter elaborated the EC moves in this regard and the government's steps to control law and order during elections as per demand of the commission.
Returning officers appointed
The letter said returning officers and 577 officers, including Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO), have already been appointed for the elections.
Executive magistrates, judicial magistrates and law enforcers will be deployed for security during polls.
The teachers of government academic institutes as well as government affiliated ones will be appointed for election duties at the polling stations set up in those areas during the period.
