Rajshahi rail link cut off

Update : 01 Dec 2013, 03:31 AM

Rail communications of Rajshahi with other parts of the country remained suspended since Saturday midnight because of the derailment of Dhumketu Express, reports UNB.

At least 12 passengers were injured in the incident.

Sujit Kumar Biswas, divisional transport officer of western zone railways, said four compartments and the engine of Dhaka-bound ‘Dhumketu Express’ train from Rajshahi veered off the tracks as the fishplates of the tracks were removed by the blockaders in the area around 1:45am, leaving 12 passengers injured.

The injured were taken to the local clinics.

Railway Police (GRP) and guards were deployed in the area immediately after the incident, he added.

Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi GRP, said they are working to remove the derailed compartments from the rail tracks for restoring the rail communications.

The blockade supporters are carrying out sabotage on railways across the country.

The second day of 72-hour blockade enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance is underway amid blasts and clashes.
