Countrywide blockade ends, 21 dead

Update : 29 Nov 2013, 02:30 AM

The countrywide 71-hour blockade called by the BNP-led 18-party alliance ended on Friday morning, amid widespread violent incidents that left 21 dead.

The blockade enforced by the opposition alliance ended around 5am in the morning.

There had been several incidents of vandalism, arson, explosion and clashes across the country including the capital that left at least 21 people dead and scores injured.

On the other hand, police arrested several opposition leaders and activists over the violence conducted during the blockade.

Earlier on November 25, the opposition had announced a 48-hour blockade programme from 6am on Tuesday, rejecting the national election schedule.

However, the blockade was extended by 23 hours on Wednesday.
