Miscreants hacked a lawyer to death in Ilsha village in Banskhali upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Shah Alam, 50, a lawyer at the Chittagong Judge Court and son of the late Saber Ali.
Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bashkhali police station told the Dhaka Tribune that a group of miscreants swooped on the advocate near his house while he was coming back from the market around 11:30pm.
“They hacked the lawyer with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot,” the OC added.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Quoting locals, OC Kamrul said Shah Alam had been affiliated with the politics of BNP, but police did not find any political motive behind the murder.
In a primary investigation, police found that he might have been killed over land dispute, police added.
