Integrated admission test postponed

Update : 26 Nov 2013, 01:31 PM

A meeting on Tuesday evening has decided to postpone the integrated admission tests between Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Jessore Science & Technology University (JSTU).

The exam was supposed to be held simultaneously with the same question paper.

Over the last two and half months, the examination committee had been preparing for all procedures, claiming it will reduce harassment of the examinees.

Last week, a group called ‘Sylhetbashi’ protested the integrated admission test, claiming this system would prove unjust to the people of Sylhet, and demanded 50% quota for Sylhetii students.

On Monday, University authorities sat down with distinguished Sylhetis and on Tuesday they postponed the test.

Around 50,000 students applied for integrated admission test at SUST and JSTU.

Following the decision, popular teacher and eminent personality of the SUST Dr Md Zafar Iqbal submitted his resignation letter protesting the postponement of the exam. His wife, Dr Yasmeen Hauque, a professor of the physics department of the same institution, also submitted her resignation.

Thousands of students are now carrying processions and protesting the cancellation of exam and the resignation of Dr Iqbal and Dr Haque.
