20kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

Another haul of smuggled gold weighing 20kg has been recovered from the toilet of a plane at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Assistant commissioner of Customs Qamrul Hasan said: “Some 160 gold bars worth around Tk80m were recovered from the waste box of a toilet onboard a Regent Airways flight after it arrived at Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur around 5:30am.”

He said acting on a tip-off, the flight was searched and the gold bars were found inside three packets in the toilet.

“The owner of the gold could not be identified as the gold bars were found abandoned”, said the customs official.
