Customs officials seized some 160 gold bars from a plane at the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early on Tuesday.
UNB reports Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) sources saying a Regent Airlines flight landed at the airport at around 4:45am.
Acting on intelligence, a customs surveillance team and APBn conducted an operation and recovered the gold bars, which weigh around 20kg, from a toilet onboard the plane.
No one was arrested in connection to the incident.
The market value of the seized gold was Tk80m, APBn sources said.
