Update : 22 Nov 2013, 07:31 PM

At least four crude bombs were hurled at the residence of newly sworn in Tourism Minister Ruhul Amin Hawladar in the capital’s Gulshan area on Friday night, leaving a security guard of a neighbouring building injured.

Injured Mohammad Sujon, 19, was first taken to Shahabuddin Medical College and Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Sub-Inspector Kamrul Islam of Gulshan police station, who took Sujon to the DMCH around 11:30pm, told the Dhaka Tribune: “One of the bombs had hit Sujon and the others exploded indiscriminately in front of the minister’s residence.”

Sujon, who sustained injuries in the head and shoulder, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Three to four crude bombs were hurled repeatedly at the residence of the minister around 9:30pm when I was passing through the area after my duty ended.

“Two people on a motorcycle attacked the residence but sped away immediately after hurling the bombs.”

Asked about the transfer to DMCH, SI Kamrul said: “As it is a criminal case, we shifted the injured to the government hospital for his better treatment.”

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station, said: “We are yet to determine the cause of the attack and identify the attackers.”

The OC said: “There was a gathering of huge people inside the minister’s house when the attacks were made.”

He further said: “Police would file a case regarding the incident if the minister or the injured does not.”
