Four killed, 26 injured in accidents in three districts

A total of four people were killed and 26 others injured in separate road accidents in Kishoreganj, Chittagong and Comilla on Friday.

In Kishoreganj, an expatriate was killed in a road accident in Pakundia upazila of the district after being hit by a motorcycle, reports our correspondent.

The dead was identified as Murshid Uddin, 27, son of Abdul Hay of Charlakkia village in Pakundia.

According to police and local sources, the accident took place on the Pakundia-Hossainpur Highway near the upazila bazar on Thursday night after a motorcycle hit Murshid’s bicycle from behind, leaving him critically injured.

The locals had taken him to Pakundia Upazila Health Complex but later shifted to the capital’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. He succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning around 8am.

Police had seized the motorcycle and its two riders but were released later.

In Chittagong, a person was killed and at least 26 others were left injured, including women and children, after a bus fell into ditch near Chatre Choumuhony area of Anwara upazila in the morning, reports our correspondent.

The identity of the dead could not yet be known immediately, police sources said.

Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Anwara police station, said a Chittagong-bound bus from Bashkhali upazila fell into the roadside ditch after the driver lost his control over the steering, leaving 27 passengers injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared an individual aged about 37 years dead, according to Nayak Bashar of CMCH police outpost.

In Comilla, two people, including a primary terminal examination candidate, were killed in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Alekharchar of the district’s sadar upazila in the morning, reports UNB.

The dead were Saiful Islam Rony, 12, a primary terminal exam candidate and son of Abu Taher, and his cousin Aklima Akhter, 8, daughter of Ershad of Rampur village in Burichang upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge Mashiur Rahman of Mainamati highway police station said the bus collided head-on with the three-wheeler on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 10:30am, killing Rony and Aklim on the spot.

Aklima’s mother Zakia Akhter, 34, was also injured in the accident which took place when the victims were going to Kotbari from Comilla Cantonment.

The injured was admitted to Comilla Medical College.

Police recovered the bodies and seized the auto-rickshaw. However, the bus sped away after the accident.
