A shopkeeper received a severe bullet-wound when some unidentified miscreants opened fire on him in city’s Maghbazar area on Thurday morning.
The victim, Masum Billah Joy, 40, was admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Ramna police station Sub-Inspector Sayed Ahmed said: “Some unidentified miscreants, riding on a pick-up van, came in front of the shop of Joy around 7:30am and opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured.”
Injured Joy told the police that a local terrorist, Robin, was trying to extort extorting Tk 500,000 from him. But, Joy strongly refused to give him any money.
Family members claimed that Robin launched the attack on Joy after he failed to collect the extortion money.
Ramna police sources said police were conducting an operation in the area to detain Robin.
