A person was killed being hit by a speeding CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the city’s Natun Bazar, Wednesday morning.
The deceased was one Manuel Areng (Chakma), 55, who hailed from Mymensingh.
Witnesses said a speeding auto rickshaw hit Manuel at around 6am while he was crossing the road, leaving him critically injured.
He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment sometime near 5:45pm, informed Mozammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Family members said Manuel arrived in the city a couple of days ago to cover for his brother-in-law’s duties, who works at a Gazipur hospital, as a proxy.
Manuel left the house in the morning in order to catch a Gazipur-bound bus.
