The portfolios of the ministers of polls-time interim cabinet was not distributed on Tuesday as the prime minister was yet to decide on areas of their jurisdiction.
High officials of the cabinet division were waiting for the decision to come from the prime minister’s office (PMO) but until 8.30pm on Tuesday they did not get any signal.
It’s expected that the portfolios of the ministers may be distributed on Wednesday morning.
“We are yet to get any signal from the PMO. It may take some more times,” Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Khandakar Iftekhar Haidar, who is also in charge of the Cabinet Secretary, told the Dhaka Tribune last night.
Earlier, the high officials of the division said the order may be issued any time as everything was ready.
An official of the health ministry said he had heard that Rawshan Ershad was to be given the charge of the health ministry.
A cabinet division high official said Jatiya Party leaders were bargaining with the prime minister for several important ministries, including home, health and public works ministry.
Meanwhile, a joint secretary of the cabinet division on Tuesday said the prime minister was also waiting to see the progress of the meeting between the president and 18-party leaders.
He said if the opposition agreed to join the polls-time government they would have to include BNP ministers and that is why the distribution of portfolios were being delayed.
Maximum 12 members of the existing cabinet would continue with the polls-time government, he added.
