A detained BNP leader died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Tuesday.
The deceased, Sahabuddin, 62, was the vice-president of BNP Lalbagh unit (ward no. 26).
Jail guard Md Hanif told the Dhaka Tribune that Sahabuddin was experiencing severe chest pains at around 12am. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on duty-doctors declared him dead around 12:15am.
Lalbagh police station Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain said: “The body has been kept in the DMCH morgue for autopsy.”
Lalbagh police source said Sahabuddin was picked up from in front of a vegetable market of Lalbagh on November 6.
Later, he was implicated in a vandalism case.
