The defence lawyers will appeal against the verdict, in the case against Giasuddin Al Mamun, which sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment and fined him Tk400m for money laundering.
“The verdict against Mamun did not follow the constitution,” said MABM Khairul Islam, a lawyer of Mamun.
He added: “The court acquitted Tarique Rahman as no charges have been proved against him.”
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman was acquitted in the money laundering case.
The court however sentenced his friend Giasuddin Al Mamun to seven years’ imprisonment and fined him Tk400m in the same case.
Judge Md Motahar Hossain of the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3 pronounced the verdict.
