Law enforcers under intelligence scanner

Intelligence officials are now monitoring the activities of police officials to find out whether any officials are involved in anti-government campaign.

The intelligence officials will now overhear police officials’ cell phone conversation. They have already started recording the cell phone conversations of the officials working in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) area and other sensitive posts outside the capital.

While talking to the Dhaka Tribune, a sources of the intelligence agency said the officials were keeping close watch on phone conversation of the officials working in Detective Branch of DMP, all officer-in-charges of police stations, deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners of all crime zones and assistant commissioner of different divisions.

On the basis of the reports of phone conversations DMP has already reshuffled five police stations in the capital.

As per directives of DMP Adabar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shamim-ar-Rashid Talukdar was transferred to Dakkhinkhan Police Station, DB (North) of DMP Inspector Gazi Ruhul Imam was made Adabar Police Station OC, and Dakkhinkhan Police Station OC M Lokman Hekim was assigned to DMP DB (north).

Besides, Vatara Police Station Inspector (investigation) Kripa Shindhu Bala was transferred to Rampura Police Station as OC while Rampur OC Delowar Hossain was attached to DMP DB (South).

The intelligence officials are not only monitoring the activities of DMP officials but also the other high officials of different districts. The major posts of Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet and Khulna Metropolitan Police are under watch of intelligence.

The home ministry on Wednesday issued an order to remove the Superintended of Police of Natore district Nahid Hossain and attach him to the Armed Police Battalion. Basudev Banik who was in Sudan was appointed as Additional Inspector General (AIG) to the Police headquarters on Wednesday.

Asked about the reason for such monitoring, a high official of police headquarters confirming the fact on request of anonymity told the Dhaka Tribune that they got some information that some police officials inside and outside the capital were giving information of arrest and raids to leaders and activists of BNP led 18-party.

A special security cell was also formed to continue safe and uninterrupted monitoring, concerned sources added.
