Update : 15 Nov 2013, 05:33 AM

Train services were restored on Lalmonirhat-Burimari land port route on Friday morning.

The services on the route, which remained suspended for two days after miscreants uprooted a number of railway tracks, resumed around 7:15am.

Thousands of passengers were facing difficulties after train movement on the route was suspended early on Wednesday.

On Thursday night, three people, including a Jamaat-e-Islami leader, were held for their alleged involvement in the uprooting of the railway tracks that lead to the derailment of a passenger train.

The arrestees are ex-secretary of Kaliganj upazila Jamaat Hasan Abdul Malek, 51, and BNP activists Rakibul Islam, 28, and Delowar Hossain, 49.

Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amiruzzaman said: “They were arrested in regards to the case lodged with Lalmonirhat railway GRP police station over the incident of uprooting railway tracks near Kakina station on the Lalmonirhat- Burimari route early Wednesday at dawn.”

Police are conducting several drives to arrest all the culprits involved in the incident, the OC said.

Lalmonirhat Railway GRP police station OC Shamsul Alam said a case was lodged against 100 people, 20 of them named, for their alleged involvement in the sabotage of the railway line.

“We transferred the case to Bengal police station on Thursday,” he said.
