At least 30 passengers were injured when a train derailed in Kaliganj upazila, Lalmonirhat, after miscreants uprooted railway tracks early on Wednesday.
The sabotage was committed on the last day of the 84-hour nationwide hartal.
The engine and two carriages of the 72-UP commuter train derailed midway between Tushbandar and Kakina railway stations around 4:30am, Lalmonirhat Railway Control room said.
The officials pinned the blame on missing clippers over 42 feet of the railway track. “Miscreants must have removed the clippers in the night.”
Clippers root railway tracks to the ground.
It will take at least seven hours to restore the line, emergency officer of the railway control room Sazzad Hossain said.
The injured were taken to local health complex.
