The lines were restored around 1pm, he added.

Jessore Kotwali Police Station Sub Inspector Mohammad Tarique endorsed the information, and added that the incident was not tied to the hartal.

Police detained seven BNP and three Jamaat-e-Islami supporters from separate areas of the district on Sunday during the opposition’s nationwide shutdown.

They have been arrested on separate sabotage charges, Jessore police Assistant Superintendent Reshma Sharmin said.

Meanwhile the shutdown was being observed in a peaceful manner throughout the district, Jessore BNP unit General Secretary Syed Saberul Haque said.
