Update : 11 Nov 2013, 02:58 AM

Train links to the north was halted for about eight hours after miscreants cut away almost three metres of rail tracks in Bogra.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday during a nationwide shutdown organised by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.

Bogra Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Shahid Alam said local Ansar VDP troopers reported 15 bike-riding youths uprooting the rail tracks in the Shahardighi area around 12:15am.

The miscreants used oxyacetylene flame, used for cutting steel, to cut away almost three metres of railway tracks, he said.

Two trains, Korotowa up and Korotowa down, were kept halted in Kahalu and Bogra railway stations overnight, the OC added.

Railway station sources later confirmed the departure of both trains around 8:30am in the morning.
