Update : 10 Nov 2013, 04:05 PM

Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation has called a 72-hour transport strike in 16 districts of country’s northern region from Thursday.

The organization announced the programme protesting the arrest of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s special assistant Shimul Biswas.

Bogra Motor Sramik Union President Abdul Latif told the Dhaka Tribune that the transport strike would be enforced through 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur division from Thursday to Sunday if Shimul Biswas is not freed by Wednesday.

Shimul Biswas was picked up along with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo from outside Khaleda’s Gulshan-2 house on Friday night, hours after BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Miah were arrested.

They were sent to jail on Saturday.
