At least 13 members of law enforcement agencies including Akbor Shah police station OC have been injured when hartal supporters locked in clashes with law enforcers at Sagorika, Alangkar, AK Khan and Colonel Hat intersections in the port city on Sunday morning.

However the BNP’s Chittagong unit leaders claimed that 12 of their activists were also injured during the clashes.

Mosharraf Hossain Bipti, secretary of Jubo Dal unit in Chittagong, claimed five of the 12 activists were injured with bullets.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (west) of CMP Arefin Jewel told the Dhaka Tribune that the injured police officials have been admitted to Police Lines Hospital.

Asked about the injured opposition activists, he said they don’t have any information regarding that matter.

Dr Shahabuddin, superintendent of police lines hospital, said nine of the injured police officials have been released after giving first aids.

Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Akbor Shah police station, said police fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the hartal activists.

At the Sagorika intersection, hartal supporters exploded seven crude bombs at around 10:30am. Police dispersed them by firing tear gas.

Pickets also tried to block the railway line in the AK Khan area by chopping down trees this morning. Locals and law enforcers later removed trees from the rail line.

Meanwhile, pickets torched a human-hauler at the Chowmuri intersection.

Additional police forces have been deployed at Sagorika, Alangkar, AK Khan and Colonel Hat intersections; led by Deputy Commissioner (west) of CMP Suzayed Islam.
