The body of a real estate businessman was yesterday found in a sack in the Katakhali area of Hathazari upazila of Chittagong district.
Police recovered a motorbike belonging to the deceased 50 yards from where the body was found.
The deceased was named as Amir Khasru, 27, son of Abdus Sattar, hailing from Battoli village in Fateyabad union in the upazila, police sources said.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Rashedul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madunaghat Investigation Centre under Hathazari police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that they found the body at around 10:45am after being alerted by locals.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy. SI Rashed said miscreants slaughtered Khasru sometime during night and dumped the body in the area.
Police suspect that Khasru was murdered following a feud over a land dispute with other businessmen in the area, said Liakat Ali, OC of Hathazari police station.
“We also heard that Khasru was involved with Jamaat-e-Islami; however, we are investigating the matter,” he said.
Quoting family members, the OC said Kahsru left his residence on Wednesday night around 7pm for his regular work and was missing from around 11pm.
A case was lodged with Hathazari police station in this regard.
No one has been held yet in this connection, said the OC.
