Airtel launches 3G commercially

Update : 08 Nov 2013, 04:23 AM

The mobile phone operator Airtel on Thursday commercially launched the mobile broadband service in Dhaka and Chittagong simultaneously.

With the initial launch, the service will be available in some limited areas of the cities, said officials. They said Airtel is offering 3G service at the price of 2G.

“We are excited to offer innovative products and prices of our 3G services with highest speed, innovative contents and affordable packages for all segments, which will mark a major milestone for Airtel in Bangladesh,” said Chris Tobit, managing director and CEO of Airtel.

Sylhet customers of Airtel will get soon the 3G service, the operator said.

Customers can enjoy high speed mobile internet, HD video streaming, file sharing and downloads and much more over Airtel 3G, said officials.

All packages are of minimum 1MBps speed. With this speed, Airtel customers can enjoy the “pay as you go” data usage service at 2G rate which is a unique offer in the market.

Moreover, as a promotional offer, the Airtel customers will receive 100% bonus on each subscription of minimum 1GB data pack purchase.

Customers availing this pack in the month of November will get a total of 12GB bonus over the period of 12 months with each subsequent purchase of 1GB pack.

After buying the first pack the customer will get 1GB bonus immediately. Hence, against 1GB purchase customers will get 2GB volume, said officials.

Airtel 3G data packs will be available for as low as T15 for 15MB. Video calls between Airtel to Airtel customers will be only T1/min.

“With this offer I believe Airtel will capture a unique position amongst its customers in terms of communication in the form of entertainment, infotainment, edutainment, m-health, m-commerce etc,” Airtel CEO added.

Sandipan Chakraborty, chief technical officer, presented technical aspects while head of marketing Mir Nawbut Ali came up with packages at the presser.

Earlier, Grameenphone commercially launched 3G on October 8, Banglalink on October 11 and Robi on November 2.
