The telefilm Nilchuri depicts a satirical consequence of Hilla marriage, a regulation in Islamic Sharia. This can be termed as “interim marriage” which applies if a Muslim man utters talaq (divorce) 3 times to his wife. But if that same Muslim man then regrets it and wants to resume his marriage to his now ex-wife, Islamic Sharia requires the now divorced woman to enter into a Hilla marriage with another man, have the marriage consummated, and then her new husband must divorce her. Only then she can remarry her former husband.
Nilchuri is written by Zinat Hossain Juthi and directed by Tariqul Islam and features Shahriar Shubho, Amirul Haque Chowdhury, Chitralekha Guho and many more. It will air on Maasranga Television at 8pm tonight.
The drama revolves around a seventy-year old man named Sagir Miya, who married three times. His third wife is a beautiful young woman named Ayna. Coming from a deprived family, she is happy to marry Sagir Miya, as he is quite affluent.
On the other hand, Sagir Miya is also content with his marriage, as Ayna is a caring and devoted wife. One day, he loses his temper and in angry haste, abuses Ayna physically and divorces her. But when she is on the verge of leaving his home, he regrets his decision and stops her.
But, according to the village norm, in order to return to her marital home with Sagir Miya, Ayna needs to go for a Hilla marriage. Sagir Miya then marries her off to one of his trusted and loyal employees, Jamir, who does exactly as he is told at all times.
However, after his Hilla marriage to Ayna, Jamir changes his tune and refuses to let go of her as he is quite taken with his beautiful bride.
