3 JCD members held in capital

Police held three members of Dhaka University’s Chhatra Dal (JCD) unit after a procession in the capital’s Katabon area during the 60-hour countrywide hartal on Tuesday morning.

The detainees are Abul Kalam Azad, Nazmul Islam, Harunur Jamir.

Around 50 Chhatra Dal members, led by its Central Committee Vice President Saiful Islam Firoz paraded in Hatirpol area in the morning.

Sources said police detained Azad, Nazmul and Harunur when the procession reached Katabon around 7:30am.

Confirming the matter, Nilkhet police station Officer-in-charge said: “They were held after we apprehended them to be involved in subversive acts.”

A crude bomb was recovered from in front of the office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain at around 12:30pm.

University Proctor Professor Dr Muhammad Amzad Ali said hartal supporters had put the bomb in front of the Pro-VC’s office.
