The employees of “Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar” project will besiege their head office in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area on Sunday demanding the immediate implementation of the proposed “Polli Sanchoy Bank”.
According to a press release, members of the council will besiege the head office around 11am on Sunday, if the prime minister’s instruction of the proposed ‘Polli Sanchoy Bank’ is not executed soon.
Meanwhile, the activities of all upazila offices will be suspended. Council President Selim Ahmed claimed that the finance minister is trying to delay the process to further amend the draft act.
Earlier on July 30, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave her direction to establish a new specialised bank named “Polli Sanchoy Bank” to resist the misuse of deposits made by poor rural people.
The ministry of finance took the decision to establish the specialised “Polli Sanchoy Bank” and on the same day it decided to prepare a draft of the “Polli Sanchoy Bank Act, 2013” in a meeting on August 1.
The press release said the numbers of beneficiaries of the project are now 1.038m and their deposits have already exceeded Tk1.3bn.
“Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar” (One House One Farm) was launched by the Rural Development and Cooperative Division under the Ministry of LGRD&C with a target of changing the rural people positively.
