Update : 30 Aug 2016, 01:04 AM
The United States is considering Bangladesh’s request to extradite the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who are now believed to be living on US soil. US Secretary of State John Kerry made the comment in response to a request from Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the daughter of Sheikh Mujib. During an hour-long meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, Hasina requested Kerry to extradite the killers of Bangabandhu who were now living in the US. In reply, Kerry said: “I understand your sensitivity, the issue is under review.” Currently, the Bangladesh government is pursuing diplomatic and legal efforts to bring back six death-row fugitive killers of Bangabandhu. At least one of Bangabandhu’s fugitive killers, Rashed Chowdhury, is believed to be now living in the US. Recently, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told journalists that he has learnt that death-row convict Rashed’s current location was in the US. Law Minister Anisul Huq also confirmed that Rashed was now living in the US. The main legal effort of extradition from the US is being carried out by reputed New York-based law firm Skadden for the past two years.
