Editors’ Council, an organisation of editors of national dailies, has expressed deep concerns over the recent attacks on journalists and newspaper offices.
In a statement issued yesterday, the council said vehicles used by newspaper offices and journalists were outside the purview of hartals. But at least 19 journalists, four media offices and several vehicles of media offices were attacked in the last five days. Moreover, houses of two journalists were also attacked.
“...We, the journalists are feeling insecure,” said the statement signed by the council’s General Secretary Mahfuz Anam.
The council urged all political parties to refrain their activists from attacking journalists and media offices. It also requested the government to provide security to journalists and media houses.
