Two alleged sea robbers were killed in a “gunfight” with the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel at Chadpaiarea in the Sundarbans on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mortuza Bahini Chief Md Mortuza and his main associate Md Morshed.
Lieutenant Sarfarj Obayed, second-in-command and operation officer of Rab-8 said “An hour long fight took place between the members of Rab-8 and Mortuza Bahini in the deep forest near the coast at 7:30am, leaving two dead on the spot.”
Meanwhile the other members of Mortuza Bahini fled the location.
The Rab recovered 15 firearms and 38 rounds of bullets from the area.
He said during the fierce gun battle hundreds of gunshots were exchanged between the Rab and the bandits.
