An activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was killed as local Awami League and BNP supporters locked in a clash in Mohammadpur upazilla of the district on Tuesday during the third and final day of 18-party’s 60-hour hartal.
The deceased was identified as Maruf Hossain, 20, son of Afsharuddin of Nittanandapur village.
Family sources of the deceased said the activists of local Awami League and BNP locked in a clash after ruling party men attacked a procession brought out by the hartal supporters.
Police opened fire to disperse them, leaving three Chhatra Dal activists injured with bullets.
The injured were admitted to Magura sadar hospital where Maruf succumbed to his injuries.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Magura police station, confirmed the Maruf’s death with the Dhaka Tribune.
He however denied the cause to be police fire.
