Update : 24 Oct 2013, 08:27 PM

Five Bangladeshi youths were handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) yesterday through the border area of Nakugaon port in Nalitabari upazila, Sherpur district.

The youths were identified as Akhtaruzzaman Chhoton, 14, son of Abdus Samad of Kishoreganj district, Bacchu Mia, 14, son of Babul Mia of Sherpur district, Sujon Mia, 14, son of Motin Molla of Barguna sadar upazila, Mosrakin Sheikh, 11, son of Jakir Sheikh of Bagerhat district, Akash Hossain, 14, son of Usman Sheikh of Faridpur district.

They were detained in an observation home in the Tura district of the Indian state of Meghalaya for the past eight months.

Earlier yesterday, a flag meeting was held between delegates of BGB and BSF for the release of the detainees.

The released youths said they had come to Jhenaigati upazila in Sherpur from the House Building area of the capital’s Uttara to attend the marriage ceremony of Bacchu Mia’s sister.

They said they had fallen victim to cheating and this led them to illegally enter into India.

Later, an Indian court ordered them to be detained in observation homes.

Earlier, on June 2, BSF had brought the teenagers to Nakugaon immigration check post to hand them over to BGB.

But they could not do so as incorrect addresses were provided by the detainees. They were then sent back to India again.
