Local administration on Thursday imposed a 36-hour ban on all types of political meetings, rallies and protests in the Bogra municipality area as the ruling Awami League and opposition BNP have arranged meetings at the same time on Friday in the district’s Altafunnessa Playground.
Arifuzzaman, nejarat deputy collector (NDC) of Bogra, said: “The ban will start from 6pm on Thursday and will continue till 6am, Saturday.
Police officials in Bogra said the 36-hour ban on gathering was imposed to avert any unwanted situations in the municipal area.
"To avert any untoward situations, the district administration has deployed three platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh in Bogra along with other law enforcement agencies including Rapid Action Battalion,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gaziur Rahman.
However, district Awami League Secretary Md Mojibur Rahman Mojnu, over mobile phone, said they will not violate any orders issued by the administration.
Meanwhile, BNP District Unit Organising Secretary Md Shaha Alam said they will hold their rally in the scheduled time defying the ban in the playground according to their earlier decision.
