Two people were killed and 40 others injured in a fierce clash between two groups of villagers at Sadekpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday.
Locals said Iqbal Chairman and Nasir Hossain of the village had long been at loggerheads over establishing their supremacy in the locality.
As a sequel to the enmity, some 400/500 people from the both groups, equipped with lethal weapons, engaged in a clash on Friday morning.
A chase and counter chase took place during the melee that left 42 people injured.
On receiving information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control by firing 10 rounds of teargas shells and rubber bullets.
Of the injured, Shamsul Islam, 45, and Islmail, 38, succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals.
Meanwhile, some 50 people were injured in another clash at Behair village in Sadar upazila in the morning.
