The ongoing gas crisis due to suspension of supply from Bibiyana did not seem to hit the capital to the extent feared during the Eid vacation.
Officials said this was because factories were closed during this time and a portion of dwellers had left the city.
Bibiyana, which supplies 850mmcf daily to the 2250mmcf national grid, was suspended from Tuesday for urgent maintenance works.
Residents from Narda, Dhaka University area, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Shyamali and Jatrabari areas said they did not face gas problems during Eid-ul Azha.
Housewife Monowara Begum from Dhaka University residential area said she faced no such problems.
Sudipta Barua from Narda residential area, working housewife Saraswati Dey from Dhanmondi, retired Nargis Akhter from Mohammadpur Babar Road, service holder Polash Datta from Shyamali also said the same.
Selina Aziz from Jatrabari's Mir Hajibagh area said she had gas problems on Eid day evening.
Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Mansur said the gas crisis was not vast since the capital was mostly empty and factories were closed during the vacation.
“The shortage could be covered,” he said adding that it might take two more days to complete the regular maintenance work of Bibiyana.
He apologised for any inconvenience caused during this period.
Meanwhile, the situation of gas supply outside Dhaka was not available.
Earlier on June 22, a 20-hour suspension from Bibiyana caused severe gas crisis through Dhaka.
Bangora gas field will be closed from October 21-25 for regular maintenance works.
