Workers clash hurts 31 in Sirajganj

At least 31 people were injured in a clash between two groups of transport workers in Railgate area in the district town on Sunday.

Of the injured, 13 were admitted to different hospitals and clinics.

Sub-inspector of Sadar police station Faruque said a scuffle ensued between truck driver Omar Faruque and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sohel as the Sohel allegedly demanded excess fare from Faruque.

As a sequel to the incident, members of their professional bodies, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other at about 12:30pm.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by charging baton and lobbing teargas canisters.

The clash left 31 people from both sides injured, the SI added. During the clash, three CNG-run auto- rickshaws and a truck were vandalised.

Additional police were deployed in the area to evade untoward incident.
