Another victim of madrasa explosion dies

Another injured from the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa explosion on October 7 succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday raising the death toll from the incident to three.

The deceased was one Mohammed Nurun Nabi, 25, a diploma engineer from Chittagong Polytechnic Institute and a resident of city’s Port Colony.

Mohammed Shahidullah, additional deputy commissioner at the north zone of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said Nabi died at the DMCH burn unit at around 5pm.

On October 7 a massive explosion rocked the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Madrasa run by the senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefazat Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury at Lalkhan Baza, leaving at least five people critically injured.

Police recovered four hand grenades and a large number of explosive-making materials from the madrasa dormitory. Three cases were filed, accusing 12 individuals, including Mufti Izhar and Harun, in connection with the explosion.

Of the injured, Habibur Rahman succumbed to his injuries on October 8 while Zubair Ahmed died on October 9 at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
