Update : 12 Oct 2013, 04:30 PM

Theatrical rock band Shohortoli, who has proved their uniqueness over the years since its inception in 2006 by giving out a number of songs blended with poetry, has come up with their second album “Opor Prishtha Droshtobyo.” The launching ceremony of the album was held on October 11 at National Library Auditorium in Agargaon.

Celebrated musician Ayub Bachchu and members of popular band Warfaze—Tipu, Roger and Anik—were present at the programme to encourage the youngsters.

The ceremony was followed by a musical performance by Arbovirus, Palash and Friends, Morubhumi and the host band.  Shohortoli presented a few songs from their new album such as Badhon, Milika and Desh Matar kache Chithi in the concert. They also entertained the audience by performing their previously released hit tracks “2011” and “Felani.”

About their new album, vocalist of the band Mishu said to Dhaka Tribune, “Our success with the first album ‘Borabor Shohortoli’ encouraged us to come up with our second album.” He adds: “Though the current situation of the music industry is very disappointing, but our passion for music inspires us to move forward.”

While talking about the strong lyrics of the band, bassist and lyricist of Shohortoli, Tapan shared with Dhaka Tribune: “Shohortoli takes strong notes from our liberation war, contemporary lifestyle, urban chaos, inequality, corruption and compose their songs thereby. We usually don’t intend to express our personal emotions through our songs.”

Explaining the title of the band, Tapan said:  “Shohortoli means suburb in English. We, the members of the band are from Mirpur, a sub-urban area of Dhaka.  Mirpur is the platform where our friendship, philosophical exchanges and musical practice grew up and still being continued.”
