Prominent figures affiliated with Liberation War were unhappy with the imprisonment unto death verdict handed down to former BNP minister Abdul Alim.
Guerrilla freedom fighter Shahidul Haq Mama was frustrated with the verdict. “This is a wheelchair verdict.”
He drew example of Ghulam Azam and said it was a trend of humanity that the tribunal was showing towards war criminals on wheelchair.
He said: “We should judge the Abdul Alim of 1971, not the man on a wheelchair today.”
Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee acting chief Shahriar Kabir also expressed his dissatisfaction with the verdict.
He said that the depth of crimes committed deserved capital punishment.
Earlier in the day, Tribunal 2 awarded Alim confinement unto death considering his health status for his role during 1971.
He was found guilty in nine of the 17 charges brought against him.
