Antarctica, the coldest and harshest continent on Earth, has now witnessed the arrival of one of Bangladesh’s most followed content creators, Salahuddin Sumon.
Sumon, accompanied by fellow traveler Nilay Kumar Biswas, has successfully stepped onto the icy landmass, marking a historic moment for Bangladeshi travel content creation.
The duo began their extraordinary journey from Ushuaia, Argentina, widely known as the southernmost city in the world. From there, they sailed through the remote waters of the Southern Ocean as part of a renowned expedition organized by the Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions.
Incredible landscapes of the Antarctic Peninsula and mainland
After reaching Antarctica, Sumon and Nilay explored the stunning islands of the Antarctic Peninsula as well as parts of the mainland, witnessing some of the most incredible landscapes on the planet. Towering glaciers, endless snow-covered mountains, and pristine icy shores created a surreal experience, offering views rarely seen by travelers from Bangladesh.
The continent’s untouched beauty left them amazed as they stepped into what is often called the Earth’s last great wilderness.
Exploring remote British territories
Before reaching Antarctica, the duo visited some of the most isolated and breathtaking regions on the planet, including the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, a British overseas territory located far from Britain but close to Argentina.
These regions are famous for their untouched landscapes and rare wildlife. During the expedition, the travelers encountered vast colonies of penguins, along with seals, seabirds, and unique flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere else on Earth.
Strong sponsorship support
This once-in-a-lifetime expedition is being supported by major sponsors. Turkish Airlines has joined as the title sponsor as part of Sumon’s role as a brand promoter. Additionally, Dot Internet, one of Bangladesh’s leading internet service providers, is serving as the leading sponsor for the journey.
Bringing Antarctica to Bangladeshi audiences
Sumon will be documenting the entire adventure, sharing videos and experiences from the southern hemisphere on his Facebook and YouTube channels, giving Bangladeshi viewers a rare opportunity to explore Antarctica through their own language.
Expressing his emotions after stepping onto the frozen continent, Sumon said: “This was always a dream for me to explore the coldest continent on Earth. I am truly happy that I can show my audience this extraordinary place in my language, something that has never been done before by anyone from Bangladesh.”
Nilay Kumar Biswas also shared his excitement, calling it the ultimate destination for any traveler: “I am really very happy to be part of this expedition. For any traveler, Antarctica must be the ultimate destination. Doing this at the age of 27 is a truly great moment for me.”
One of the world’s most expensive expeditions
Traveling to Antarctica is considered one of the most expensive and challenging expeditions in the world, making this achievement even more remarkable.
With this historic journey, Salahuddin Sumon and Nilay Kumar Biswas are not only fulfilling personal dreams but also opening a new chapter in Bangladeshi travel storytelling bringing the wonders of the Earth’s final frontier closer to home.
