Government increases number of CIP for export

Despite of the increasing number of commercial important persons (CIP) from 165 to 188, the government has reduced the number to 38 from 40 for the leaders of different trade bodies as CIP.

The decision was taken in a regular cabinet meeting amending the existing ‘CIP (Export) Guideline’ held at secretariat on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Disclosing the matter to journalists, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said: “The government has taken the decision to increase the number of CIPs for export as the sectors of exporting have been expanded.”

He said it will promote the exporters on expanding their export business.

According to the amended guideline, a total 188 persons will get the status of CIPs from now-onward. Of them, 150 individuals and 38 leaders of trade bodies will get the status of CIP.

Out of 150 individuals, at least five persons will come from Export Processing Zone (EPZ) based ‘C’ category exporters, he added.

Meanwhile, the cabinet decided to provide Tk6bn for the development of the jute sector.

Bhuiyan said: “Prime minister has ordered the finance minister to provide Tk6bn as bank loan for the development of the thrust sector of the country.”

He said: “The finance ministry will provide bank loan for the sector shortly. It will be spent for developing the sector by importing technologies and research.”
