Police found four live crude bombs on the rooftop of a school in Sitakunda upazila, Chittagong on Saturday night.
None were arrested in connection with the incident, said SM Badiujjaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off a team of law enforcers from Sitakunda police station conducted a drive at a primary school in the upazila’s Duttapara area at around 9:30pm and found the homemade bombs on the rooftop of the school’s washroom, he said.
Police successfully deactivated the explosives at 12:30am yesterday, the OC said.
Police suspect that a group was attempting to orchestrate subversive activities in the area, the OC said adding that the police was looking into the matter.
At least five crude bombs exploded during a protest by the Islami Chhatra Shibir in the city’s Rahattarpul area yesterday.
Eyewitnesses and locals said around 40 to 50 Shibir men brought out a protest procession sometime around 8:30am which paraded up to the Ek Kilometer area of the city.
While the rally was in motion, the Shibir men blasted at least five cocktails and fled from the scene, said one Md Mithu, resident of the area.
Due to the suddenness of the explosions a panic was triggered amongst passersby, he said.
Mohammad Mohsin and Abdur Rouf, officers-in-charge of Bakalia and Chandgaon police stations respectively, were not able to confirm the matter.
