At least two people were killed in separate incidents in Dhaka and Chittagong on Saturday.
A housewife was allegedly strangled to death by her husband in the capital’s Khilgaon area on Saturday over family feud.
The deceased was identified as Sonia Akter Chobi, 32, wife of AKM Mahfuzul Haque, from the ProvatiBag area.
The police recovered the hanging body of the deceased from the residence around 12pm and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy, says Susankar Pal, sub-inspector of Khilgaon police station.
Quoting the deceased’s neighbour, he added that the couple often locked into clashes over a family feud.
The police suspected that she might have lost her life following such clash, as injury marks were found on both hands of the victim when the body was recovered.
“We will be able to say clearly about the cause death after getting the autopsy report,” the SI said.
The husband and his brother were detained for interrogation, he said, adding that primary inspection of the case suggested Sonia might have been hung from the ceiling fan after being killed.
Meanwhile in Chittagong, a shop owner was allegedly stabbed to death by his cousin’s husband on the rooftop of a building near the Agrabad area on Saturday.
The killer surrendered to the police.
Police named the deceased as Mohammad Shahin, 30, owner of Computer Eon at the IT Building, under Double Mooring police station.
The alleged killer, Md Faisal Islam Rasel, 26, is the husband of the victim’s younger cousin, said Arefin Jewel, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s West Zone.
He said Rasel stabbed Shahin on the rooftop of the building around
4:30pm after luring there under the pretence of gossiping, adding that he surrendered to the police following the stabbing.
Quoting Rasel’s confession, the ADC said Shahin was killed because Rasel believed that his wife had an illicit relationship with Shahin.
A case was lodged with the Double-Mooring police station in this regard, the ADC added.
