About 1.4m children under five years of age will be fed Vitamin A Plus capsules in the city and district on the occasion of National Vitamin A plus campaign on Friday.
The campaign will begin from 8am and continue uninterruptedly till 4pm.
Over 700 supervisors including Commissioners of 41 wards will supervise the A Plus campaign at their respective jurisdictions in the port city.
A total of 6,020 temporary vaccination centers will be set up by the Chittagong Civil Surgeon office in all 14 upazilas of Chittagong while Chittagong City Corporation will set up 1,288 temporary centers in all its 41 wards to carry out the programme.
Over 25,000 volunteers and health workers including 4,888 by CCC would be engaged for giving Vitamin A Plus capsules to the children aged from zero to 5 years while additional one deworming tablet to each of the children aged from 2 to 5 years, reports BSS.
Besides, 1,200 volunteers and health workers in CCC area and 4850 in the 14 upazilas of the district will carry out the drive in the next four days from October 6 as a follow up programme through visiting doorsteps of the households to cover up dropped out children, CCC and civil surgeon office sources said.
CCC sources said several mobile teams consisting of 278 members in port city and 580 members in the district have been engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and steamer stations as well as other places of makeshift living.
CCC Mayor M Manjur Alam will formally inaugurate the day’s programmes.
The mayor disclosed it in a press conference held at its auditorium this noon.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sorforaj Khan Chowdhury, disclosed this in the second press conference held at civil surgeon office in the port city yesterday morning.
