The Communications Ministry has cancelled the vacation of officers and employees of the Roads and Highway Department (RHD) to ease sufferings of the home-bound people during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, reports UNB.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed the matter while visiting the four-lane road construction works at Nobinagar-Chandra point in Ashulia, Savar on Friday morning.
He said the vacation has been cancelled so that the RHD staff could discharge their duties properly 10 days before Eid and five days later to ensure hassle-free journey of the home-bound passengers.
In case of absence during the time one must be punished, he added.
The minister also urged the opposition lawmakers to join parliament and place their proposals there to resolve the ongoing political standoff.
The executive engineer of the Dhaka division of RHD accompanied the minister during the visit, among others.
