UP Chairman shot dead in Jessore

The Chairman of Singhajhuli union parishad was shot to death in the district’s Chaugachha upazila on Thursday afternoon. Zillur Rahman Mintu, 47, was also former president of the district Chhatra League.

Mintu was attending a programme organised by teachers of Moshiur Rahman Secondary School at the union in the afternoon, reports Banglanews.

At around 2:45pm, two miscreants rushed over to the programme on a motorbike and shot Mintu leaving him dead on the spot, according to a witness to the incident.

Sub-Inspector of Chaugachha police station Prabir said the motive behind the murder is yet to be established, while adding that “Police personnel were deployed at the spot.”

On July 24, 2002, the former chairman of the same union, and also Awami League leader, Ashraf Hossain, was shot dead.

Atiar Rahman, Jubo Dal activist and an accused in the Ashraf Hossain murder case, was also shot dead, on September 23.
