Transport workers were observing an indefinite strike through Satkhira district on Tuesday protesting Jamaat-Shibir-instigated violence and demanding a ban on “illegal vehicles.”
District motor workers’ union enforced the strike without prior notice since morning, while other transport workers’ organisations endorsed the strike.
Satkhira Bus-Minibus Sramik Union President Rabiul Islam said Jamaat-Shibir vandalised some vehicles from Sekendra area of Debahata upazila Monday evening.
He said the strike was called from 10am protesting the incident, demanding punishment of the vandals and a ban on Nasimon, Karimon and other illegal vehicles from plying highways.
