A technical glitch heralded the morning hours of the first day of the annual income tax fair in Dhaka on Monday.
Visitors complained of not being able to access online registration for the newly automated E-TIN system, which was intended to expedite the tax payment process, until midday.
Officials said it was only a “temporary server problem.”
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the weeklong fair at the capital's Officers' Club at 10am. However, the fair premises was buzzing with visitors from 9am.
In his inaugural speech Muhith hoped for the fair’s success and underlined that it was the duty of the people as citizens to pay taxes.
The focus of this fair is the E-TIN, which will be the only automated database for taxpayers from next year.
Visitors can register online for the E-TIN from the fair, which is expected to run through the week from 10am to 6pm.
